In Video: Syrian Air Defense Force Repels Drone Attack On Hama Air Base

Late on December 1, the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SAADF) intercepted several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the Hama Air Base.

According to pro-government activists, the mysterious UAVs approached the air base, in what appears to be an attempt to bomb it. A video released by the activists shows heavy machine guns of the SAADF opening fire at the UAVs over the air base. Several ground-to-air missiles were also launched.

Earlier this year, the Hama Air Base was the target of several UAV attacks. The drones used in these attacks, which were launched from Greater Idlib, were primitive. The new attack appears to be identical to the previous ones.

Hama airbase is one of three key air fields in central Syria. The airbase is hosing several squadrons of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF). Some Russian units are also deployed there.

Local observers believe that al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is behind these attacks. Turkey and the U.S. were also accused of facilitating these provocations.
